Cooperation with Kuwait

Diplomatic relations between both countries were established on March 11, 1963.

Diplomatic relations between both countries were established on March 11, 1963. In November 1964 during the visit of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Minister of Finance, Industry and Oil of Kuwait to Moscow, the first bilateral agreement on economic and technical cooperation was signed.

In November 1991, the Emir of Kuwait Jaber Al-Ahmad al-Sabah visited the USSR. During his visit the Emir during met with the President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev and the President of the RSFSR Boris Yeltsin.

In November 1994, during the visit to Kuwait of Viktor Chernomyrdin, the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, it was decided to establish an Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical cooperation. In 2008, the Russian-Kuwait Business Council was established.

The president of the Russian federation Vladimir Putin and the Emir of Kuwait Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah met in Sochi in November 2015.

Military-technical cooperation with Kuwait throughout the 1970-1990s developed dynamically. Especially large deliveries of weapons and military equipment were carried out in 1994-1997.

In December 2015, Rosoboronexport took part in the International Exhibition of Weapons and Military Equipment Gulf Defence & Aerospace-2015 (Kuwait) for the first time.
