Russian Arms at IDEX-2013
15.02.2013 Press release

Rosoboronexport pledged to put up a spectacular digital presentation of the best Russian weapons and materiel at the IDEX 2013 international defense show in Abu-Dhabi, UAE on February 17-21, 2013. Russia is also planning to demonstrate modernized T-90S MBT and unique BMPT (Terminator) fire support combat vehicle in full size.

The mainstay of the Rosoboronexport’s exposition is the new version of its interactive exhibition system, designed to display the performance and combat capabilities of Russian land and air systems.

The spectacular presentation on a wide panoramic screen will give those present a chance to get to know the primary specifications and assess battlefield performance of T-90S, BMP-3, BTR-80A, Msta-S self-propelled howitzer, Smerch MRLS, Mi-28NE and Ka-52 gunships, and Su-35 and MiG-29M fighter jets. Each and every piece of equipment will be presented in a simulated combat environment, with the focus laid on the details that distinguish the Russian weapons from their key rivals.

Rosoboronexport will disclose detailed information about more than 200 items of weapons and materiel.

Not in the least interesting will be the display of BMPT and T-90S, which will be presented by the developer, Uralvagonzavod research and production corporation. The world’s unrivaled fire support combat vehicle, BMPT can effectively be employed jointly with armored units on an ordinary battlefield, while also independently in counter-terrorism operations and low-intensity conflicts. The vehicle will be opened to visitors at the fixed display, while the modernized T-90S will prove its outstanding performance at the firing and testing range of the show.

“Russia has been a frequenter of IDEX, and we have always tried to bring something special to this key weapons show in the Middle East. In fact, it was here that we demonstrated our interactive exhibition system for the first time in a bid to advertise Rosoboronexport’s new approach to the work at international arms forums. This time Uralvagonzavod added a live presentation. I am sure the Russian arms will be in the focus of attention at this expo,” Nikolai Dimidyuk, the Rosoboronexport’s Special Programs Director and head of the company’s delegation to the show said.

Rosoboronexport expects significant attention to Russian land vehicles and closed-terrain weapons, including special-purpose small arms. The ground forces’ hardware evolved to become one of the most promising fields of cooperation between Russia and countries of the region.

This is first of all true for armored vehicles and particularly the modernized T-90S, which is the best in class by its characteristics. Other subjects of interest include various armored vehicles for Army, police and special purpose forces.

The Instrument Design Bureau will have a long line of antitank weapons on its display, including the internationally acclaimed Kornet-E, Metis-M1, and the latest Kornet-EM antitank guided missile systems.

Rosoboronexport is also willing to offer comprehensive upgrade programs for earlier supplied equipment –T-72 tanks and BMP-2 and BMP-3 infantry-fighting vehicles.

Yet another promising sales segment is air defense, with Almaz-Antey planning to demonstrate the most cutting-edge systems of Russian origin at the show. As Rosoboronexport specialists claim, there is a huge interest almost in all export modifications of Russian air defense systems in the region – from man portable to long-range ones.

The reason is evident: building a multi-layered air defense is number one priority for any nation, wishing to stay clear of a political or military pressure, and Russian air defense weapons are known to be up to the mark, whenever it comes to the protection from all existing and future air threats.

Rosoboronexport – the sole state company in Russia authorized to export the full range of defense and dual-use products, technologies and services. It is part of the Rostec Corporation. Rosoboronexport is ranked among the leaders of the global arms market and accounts for over 80% of Russia’s annual arms sales. Rosoboronexport cooperates with more than 700 enterprises and organizations of Russia’s defense industrial complex. Russia maintains military-technical cooperation with over 70 countries worldwide.

Rostec is Russian corporation established in 2007 in order to assist high technology civil and military goods designing, production and exportation. It comprises 663 enterprises which form 8 military-industrial complex and 5 civil industry holdings. The companies of Rostec are located in 60 regions of Russia and cater for the markets of over 70 countries.
