Rosoboronexport plans to build safe cities in Latin America
28.07.2014 Press release

Rosoboronexport, part of Rostec State Corporation, is preparing proposals for Latin America to establish comprehensive security programs for states, major administrative entities, cities, state borders and critical assets.

At the core of the concept proposed to the Latin American partners is a multilevel intelligent system dubbed by experts as the Safe City. It is an integrated real-time surveillance and resources command & control system that significantly improves the efficiency of operations units at all stages of everyday activities, from threat forecasting and warning to localization and elimination.

In addition, Rosoboronexport offers a variety of special facilities, weapons and equipment to fit law enforcement and special units, search-and-inspection and other equipment, including that required at public events.

Russia has great experience and all the necessary equipment to build the Safe City. Implementing such a system to ensure safety and security at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 is one of the most striking examples. In particular, such experience could be used by Brazil during preparations for the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent visit to a number of countries in the region, as well as negotiations held in the framework of the BRICS Summit in Brazil, have shown interest among Latin American countries in expanding military-technical cooperation with Russia, especially in areas such as technology and industrial cooperation.

In particular, at a press conference held after her meeting with Vladimir Putin, President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff expressed the hope that “our countries will strengthen relations in the energy, military, technology and other areas.”

Implementing such large-scale projects as the Safe City jointly with local companies will not only enhance the effectiveness of countering threats posed by terrorism, crime, and illegal immigration, but will also bring the fast-growing economic and military-technical cooperation between Russia and the Latin American countries to a new level.

Rosoboronexport, a subsidiary of the Rostec Corporation, is the sole state-owned arms trade company in the Russian Federation authorized to export the full range of military and dual-purpose products, technologies and services. Rosoboronexport is one of the leading world arms exporters to the international market. Its share in Russia's military exports exceeds 80 percent. Rosoboronexport cooperates with more than 700 enterprises and organizations in the Russian defence industrial complex. Russia maintains military technical cooperation with more than 70 countries around the world.

Rostekhnologii State Corporation (Rostec) is a Russian corporation established in 2007 in order to facilitate the development, manufacturing and export of high-technology industrial products of military and civil purposes.
