The Scorpion-2MB special transport vehicle (STV) is intended for transporting personnel and various military cargos, mounting and transporting weapons and military hardware, towing trailers and trailer systems weighing 1.5 tons on all types of roads and terrain.
The Scorpion-2MB STV can be used as:
- a basic chassis for developing special variants, including radiation and chemical reconnaissance vehicles, communications and control vehicles, truck convoy escort vehicles, casualties transport and evacuation vehicles, etc;
- a means of mobility and operating/fighting support for the personnel of the armed forces, peacekeeping forces and other state formations of the importing countries (border guard service, interior troops’ units, etc.) in local armed conflicts;
- a basic transport platform for weapons and military hardware, communication equipment within the load-carrying capacity.
The Scorpion special transport vehicles are available in armored and unarmored versions and meet the air transportability requirements, including external transportation by Mi-8AMTSh and Mi-26 helicopters.
All of the Scorpion versions (Scorpion-2MB- a version with a closed all-metal armored hull, Scorpion-2M, a version with a closed all-metal unarmored hull, Scorpion-2, a version with an open unarmored hull and a removable canvas cover) share a common running gear platform, which consists of a load-bearing frame, diesel engine, manual 5-speed gearbox, two-stage transfer case, limited slip differentials and disc brakes for all wheels.
Modular hulls are designed to carry up to 8 people and equipped with ventilation, air conditioning and individual heating systems.
All of the Scorpion versions are powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged diesel engine with a capacity of 112 kW (152 hp) and torque of 360 Nm.
A single-compartment hull is fitted with two wide side and two hinged rear doors enabling the crew to quickly enter and leave the vehicle. The driver and commander seats are fitted with 6 adjustments and an adjustable cushioning system. The troop seats are arranged along the sides and allow the face-to-face and back-to-back installation. Various equipment and weapons weighing up to 250 kg can be mounted on the roof of vehicle.
An add-on armor kit has been developed for the armored vehicle version, which increases the level of perimeter and glazing protection against ballistic attacks to Class 6a (GOST R 50963-96 and GOST R 51136-2008 – protection against armor-piercing B-32 bullets fired from an SVD sniper rifle from five to ten meters) and withstands a mine blast under wheel equivalent to 2 kg of TNT.
Upon customer request, remote-controlled weapon stations (RCWS) with 7.62 or 12.7mm machine guns can be installed on the armored vehicle.
