The diplomatic relations between the countries date back to August 21, 1963.

August 27-29, 2001 saw the official visit of King Abdullah II of Jordan to Moscow. On June 26, 2012, President Vladimir Putin of Russia set off on a working visit to Jordan.

In the years that followed, the two leaders met multiple times, as did heads of ministries and agencies.

Trade and economic cooperation of Russia and Jordan is governed by the Trade Agreement and Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement of January 21, 1969, and the Protocol to the latter of October 5, 1997. The partners also established an Intergovernmental Committee for Development of Trade & Economic and Military & Technical Cooperation.

In 2005, it was augmented by a Business Council.

The Russian-Jordanian military and technical cooperation possesses great potential. Before 1990 came, Russia had supplied Jordan with BMP-2 APCs, SAM systems and other equipment. Recently the two countries entered a range of contracts, of which the most prominent is on development and production of the RPG-32 Nashshab grenade launcher. Another noteworthy project going on today between the countries is modernization of AD systems delivered to Jordan earlier.

Late in 2005, the partners started a joint venture, namely JRESCO (Jordan Russian electronic systems Co), to run a number of projects in Jordan in military electronics, armor, and aviation.

Rosoboronexport is a permanent participant of Sofex, an international exhibition for special operations forces held in Amman, Jordan.

Jordan hosts a representative office of Rostec, Russia’s state corporation, that also projects Rosoboronexport’s interests in the country. Telephone number of the office: (+9626) 585-52-06, fax: (+9626) 586-35-11, e-mail: rep4319@rostec.ru
