The 122mm Grad multiple rocket launcher (MRL) system is designed to defeat enemy motor-rifle and infantry units in concentration areas, on the march and in battle formations, artillery and mortar batteries, air defence units, and logistics facilities.

The launch vehicle is fitted with an automated laying and fire control system.
A wide range of artillery rockets is available for the Grad MRL. All the rockets are similar in design and differ from each other only in the type of warhead used (separable and non-separable high-explosive warheads, cluster warhead with shaped-charge/fragmentation submunitions, cluster warhead with sensor-fused fire-and-forget submunitions).
