The 9mm Yarygin PYa self-loading pistol designed to engage enemy manpower protected by Class 2 body armor at ranges up to 50 meters.

The pistol is a semi-automatic double-action (DA) weapon.

Its hammer-type trigger mechanism enables shooting from the cocked position and in the DA mode.

The pistol has two safeties that are automatically disengaged: one - when the hand grasps the pistol grip and the other when the trigger is pressed before firing. There is also an ambidextrous manual safety switch on both sides of the frame.
