Cooperation with Pakistan


Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on May 1, 1948.

Soon after, a representative Soviet delegation visited the capital of Pakistan (Karachi at that time). In 1949, the first Ambassador of Pakistan, Shoaib Qureshi , arrived in Moscow.

Cooperation in the trade and economic sphere is carried out on the basis of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation of April 20, 1999.

In 2000, the Russian-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was established.

Russia and Pakistan actively cooperate in multilateral organizations, in particular, within the framework of the SCO. The main areas of cooperation are the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
