The 7.62mm MTs-116M sniper rifle, based on the MTs-116 sporting rifle and chambered for 7.62x54mm or 7.62x51mm cartridges is designed to destroy unprotected enemy manpower or manpower wearing body armor, and thin-skinned vehicles. It is based on a high-class sporting target rifle. Reloading is manual, and the barrel bore is locked by a longitudinally sliding bolt.

The triggering mechanism is assembled on a separate base and allows adjustment of the trigger pull and creep. The safety button can be put on and off in the ready position.

The butt-stock is adjustable in height and length, and the cheek piece is adjustable in height. The lower part of the butt-stock accommodates an extending support. A folding bipod is mounted on a rail in the lower part of the shortened forearm. The Picatinny rail is mounted on top of the receiver. As agreed upon with the customer the rifle may be fitted with various day and night sights.

In addition to the standard optical sight, the rifle is also equipped with iron sights, comprising a ramp-type rear sight for fire at a range of 100 and 300 m and a front sight. An anti-mirage device is mounted on the barrel, and a slot flash suppressor is attached to the muzzle.
