Mission
The upgraded MG-94ME sonar decoy projectile with a separable drifting sonar countermeasure (SCM) module is designed to protect surface ships from torpedoes equipped with active/passive acoustic homing systems. It either generates jamming signals in the required frequency bands at certain distances from the ship, which disable the receiving channels of the torpedo’s homing system and the latter lose the capability to detect surface ships, or provides simulated emission, which causes the torpedo to home in on the SCM module.
Components
The MG-94ME sonar decoy projectile consists of a rocket portion and a head portion, which houses the SCM module, a separation and deceleration system as well as a safety and arming device.
The SCM module includes:
- electronic/acoustic instrumentation, sonar antennas, power amplifier;
- depth-keeping system for the SCM module;
- storage battery;
- electrochemical power source.
Basic specifications:
- types of acoustic countermeasures – jamming and (or) simulated emission;
- type of jamming – broadband barrage, frequency spot jamming;
- kind of simulation – surface ship’s secondary sonar field;
- jamming emission mode – continuous and pulse;
- range of emitted frequencies – corresponds to the torpedo pings;
- signal emission field - omnidirectional in the horizontal plane, sector in the vertical plane;
- SCM module placement depth – 25 m;
- operation time – at least 8 min;
- ship speed during MG-94ME placement - no limitations.
Projectile’s dimension and weight characteristics:
- caliber – 212mm;
- length – 1,830 mm;
- weight – 115 kg.
Operation features
No preliminary setting is required.
Automatic mode selection.
The design allows the independent use of the SCM module without carrier shell which enables its placement from other devices or by drop.
