At the FIDAE 2012 International Air and Space Fair (27 March – 1 April 2012, Santiago, Chile), Rosoboronexport, JSC will showcase more than a hundred modern items of Russian defense products.
Russia has been a traditional participant of the exhibition since 1994, so FIDAE 2012 is the tenth anniversary event for our country. The best Russian aircraft models, including the Sukhoi and MiG fighters, were repeatedly demonstrated in the skies above Santiago. In 2002 a group of Chilean parliamentarians made a familiarization flight aboard a Mi-17 helicopter directly during the exhibition. The Ka-32 helicopter made demo flights here in 2008 while 2010 saw the demonstrations of the unique amphibious aircraft Be-200.
FIDAE is an ideal platform to promote Russian defense products in Latin America. In 2011 this region accounted for more than 14% of Rosoboronexport’s total export deliveries.
"We regard the Latin American market as very promising. Since its formation Rosoboronexport has been conducting a proactive policy to strengthen Russia's standing in the region. Over the last years we have been able to start discussing specific projects with virtually all the countries of the continent. This does not mean that they all will be implemented, but the main thing for us is that an intense dialogue is under way and we see a growing interest in our proposals,"- said Sergei Svechnikov, Head of the Analysis and Forward Planning Department at Rosoboronexport and head of the delegation at the exhibition.
Rosoboronexport’s display at an exhibition is formed taking into account the actual needs in a particular market. This year, particular emphasis in the aircraft segment is placed on the latest Su-35 fighter, Yak-130 combat trainer, the Mi-17 series well-known military transport helicopters and Mi-35M attack/transport helicopter. Another focus area is effective air defense weapons, in particular the Igla-S MANPADS and Tor-M2E and Buk-M2E SAM systems. The land forces’ equipment is represented by the Kornet-EM ATGM system and the upgraded T-90S tank - the recent products from the Russian defense industry.
"It should be emphasized that Rosoboronexport offers not only just finished products. We hope to implement licensed and joint production programs with the countries in the region and carry out joint advanced R&D projects. Some countries have already received our proposals concerning these areas. We seek to expand and deepen military-technical cooperation with our partners as much as possible," - said Sergei Svechnikov.
During the exhibition the Rosoboronexport delegation intends to discuss such issues with the partners as improving after-sales service, establishing service centers and providing effective personnel training. In particular, the professionals will be able to get information at the Company booth on modern simulator training systems for various branches of the armed forces.
- Air Force equipment: Su-35, Su-30MK2 multirole fighters, MiG-29M/M2 frontline fighters, Yak-130 combat training aircraft, Mi-17 series military transport helicopters, Mi-35M attack/transport helicopter, Mi-28NE and Ka-52 attack helicopters, Ka-226T light utility helicopter, Ka-27PS search-and-rescue helicopter, Ka-28 ASW helicopter, Ka-31 radar picket helicopter, and a wide array of airborne weapons.
- Air defense systems: Buk-M2E, Tor-M2E SAM systems, Antey-2500 ADMS, Pantsir-S1 missile/gun air defense system, Igla-S MANPADS and Strelets control equipment and launch module set for missiles of this type, a large lineup of radars.
- Land Forces’ armaments and equipment: the upgraded T-90S MBT, BMPT fire support vehicle, BMP-3M infantry fighting vehicle, BTR-80A armored personnel carrier, Khrizantema-S self-propelled anti-tank missile system, Smerch MRL system, upgraded 155mm version of the MSTA-S SP howitzer, Nona-SVK self-propelled gun, Kornet-EM ATGM system, various engineer equipment, a wide range of close combat weapons and ammunition.
- Naval materiel: Amur-1650 and Project 636 diesel-electric submarines, Gepard 3.9 and Project 22356 frigates, Tigr and Project 11356 escort ships, Mirazh, Mangust, Sobol fast boats, various shipboard weapon systems, maritime situational awareness facilities.
Highlights on display:
- Su-35 multi-purpose fighter. This super agile fighter incorporates fifth-generation technologies. Among its features are also: the latest higher thrust and longer life 117S engines, an airborne equipment suite based on a digital information management system, as well as the Irbis-E phased array radar capable of detecting targets at ranges up to 400 km. All this gives the Su-35 superiority over the fourth-generation aircraft.
- Yak-130 combat training aircraft. It can be successfully used not only for the effective training of pilots, but also as a light combat aircraft. It is fuel efficient and offers a high level of flight safety, while its control system can simulate flying different types of fighters for training purposes. The Yak-130’s cockpit is equipped with large (6x8-inch) color multifunctional displays, fully complies with the “glass cockpit” concept and uses HOTAS controls. The Yak-130 carries 3 tons of weapons and can be equipped with various types of guided and unguided weapons.
- Buk-M2E SAM system. One Buk-M2E battalion is capable of attacking simultaneously up to 24 targets flying from any directions at ranges of 3 to 45 km and at altitudes of 15 m to 25 km, in a heavy ECM and counter-fire environment. The vital difference from the previous version (Buk-M1) is the use of a phased array antenna in the target tracking radar, which has quadrupled the rate of fire. The SAM system is effective even against surface targets and ground radio-contrast targets.
- Tor-M2E SAM system. One battery of the new four-channel Tor-M2E, consisting of four launch vehicles, can simultaneously engage 16 targets flying from any directions at a range of up to 15 km and at altitudes up to 10 km in any weather, day and night. A high level of automation and unique engagement algorithms minimize crew involvement. As far as repelling a massive air strike, the Tor-M2E is simply unrivalled.
- Kornet-EM ATGM system. The introduction of an automatic target tracker into the Kornet-EM has actually implemented the fire-and-forget principle and also improved the target tracking accuracy and the hit probability across the entire range envelope. The maximum firing range of the Kornet-EM is 8 km or 10 km, depending on the type of ammunition. The missile with a HEAT warhead can penetrate 1100-1300 mm of armor. The new missile system can engage air targets (UAVs, helicopters, ground-attack aircraft), thus qualitatively enhancing the capabilities of the units in combat.
